When school is back in session, that often means lots of running around between sports, music, and other activities after class making it even more important to put a plan together now for how you are going to fuel your kiddo while skipping the fast food trap!
While lunches and snacking at home might be a little different than what I’m about to share, today I want to exclusively point out some better for you, aka healthier school snacks.
Healthy Snacks for Kids & Parents
What does a healthy school snack look like? A healthy snack is one [IMO] that is portion controlled, offers a good balance of protein, carbs, & fat, and contains real ingredients. It’s a long list, I know. Some of the items on the list are best when paired with another snack to round them out. Healthy snacks can also be whole pieces of fruit, cut veggies, hummus, cottage cheese, and so many more. Sometimes the later options aren’t always available in pre-packaged single serving sizes or they require some level of refrigeration.
Most of the snacks listed below are non-gmo, however it’s always best practice to re-read the labeling each time you purchase an item; there may be changes that effect the ingredients including food allergens. As a side tip, I’d encourage you to keep a stash of snack items in your car for when hunger strikes because no one likes a hangry kid or adult.
