Traveling used to be, kind of, simple. My husband and I would plan out destination, pack a few things, and not worry too much if we forgot something. Well, this carefree attitude changes a bit when you add kids to the mix.
While we never went overboard on baby things at home, there are some essential travel items that I’m about to share with you, you will want to remember to pack.
What I Always Travel With As A Toddler Mom
Truth be told, this list hasn’t really changed since the baby days. We probably had a pack n’ play too, but these five items have been invaluable if you plan to travel often with your little.
Here’s how you can make traveling with toddlers easy:
1. Portable Diaper Caddy
A portable diaper caddy was one fo the first items we added to our baby registry. This specific caddy not only traveled with baby between our two homes every week for a good 6 months or more, it’s been our daily diaper organizer and roadside friend for more than 2 years. The compartments let you easily store diapers, wipes, ointment, and any other items like medicine that you’ll want to have on hand when traveling with toddlers.
2. Foldable High Chair
This might be one of the coolest baby to toddler items that I’ve seen. The folding high chair works like the a portable camping chair with the option of adding a tray. It also allows you to use in on the floor or attach the provided straps for securing it to a chair to make it table height. All the pieces fit into a convenient carrying bag!
3. Lots of Books, Small Toys, & Something New
Go with me for a second on this one — the last one is key. While your little may favor certain books and toys that keep their attention, there are times when they get wary from traveling and something new can help them hang in there a little bit longer. My favorites to pick up are reading or activity books from the dollar store, small open ended ‘toys’ or the occasional car because well, I am a boy mama!
4. Travel-Friendly Sound Machine
This on-the-go sound machine has saved our toddler from waking up when napping or at night so many times! It can charge via USB, has several different sound settings plus volume control. It scores a big 10 out of 10 for helping to not wake a sleeping baby.
5. Reusable Swim Diapers
While I hope you are planning to travel somewhere warm, we found that 90% of the time, we ended up in a situation where we were getting in the pool or playing at a splash pad while traveling with toddlers. Reusable swim diapers work similarly to ‘cloth’ diapers except that they do not hold any liquids in! So take note that these go on right before enjoying your water fun.
What items do you always travel with, with toddlers?
